Nutritional Management of Liver Disease

Monica's Comments
This study looks at the requirements of a liver-compromised dog and discusses the type of diet this dog would need. Amongst the many key points is that red meat should not be fed.

The full study is available from iknowledgenow.com for a fee of $3.95.

The Abstract
The goal in the nutritional management of hepatic disease is to design a highly palatable diet that provides adequate energy, adequate protein, and all essential "micronutrients". The diet must also be appropriate for managing potential complications that can accompany hepatic disease such as gastrointestinal ulceration, hepatic encephalopathy (HE), ascites or coagulopathy.
