Allergy
or Intolerance?
A
food allergy is an immune system response to an otherwise harmless
food. Antibodies identify the food every time it's consumed. Histamine
and chemicals are released and are the cause of excessive scratching,
chewing paws, yeast overgrowth, skin eruptions, sloppy stool and
other symptoms.
A
food intolerance is a physiological response that does not affect
the immune system and may not have any apparent reason. While diagnosing
the difference between allergy and intolerance has clinical relevance,
relief is the goal!
What
You Can Do
An elimination diet consisting of one novel protein and one novel carbohydrate for a period of 8 weeks is the first step. The
Allergy Problem provides more information and discusses approaches and myths that should be understood in order to see success.
Studies about ellagic acid (see Antioxidant
Booster) show benefits to the immune system. B-Complex vitamins play important roles for almost every body function as well as the gastrointestinal tract. Acidophilus provides healthy bacteria to help replenish the digestive tract. Vitamin
C, Ester-C
with Bioflavanoids, and Vitamin E are powerful help for the immune system.
